OYINLOLA SUES FOR PEACE OVER GOV ELECTION IN OSUN
Immediate past governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has called for peace and harmonyamong contending political interests in the state.
Prince Oyinlola, in a telephone interview on Friday, said the call became necessary following reported attacks on innocent people by political thugs as the continuous voter registration went underway in the state.
The former governor also used the opportunity to react to a newspaper report that said he left a debt of N18 billion in the state, describing it as factually incorrect, and adding that the total bank loan owed by his government was N7.6 billion.
“Our government borrowed N18.3 billion but by Novermber 26, 2010, when we left office, a total of N10.045 billion was spent from that loan, leaving an unspent balance of N8.334 billion. It is also important to state that out of the N10.045 billion utilised, we had paid back N2.4 billion to the bank, leaving the total indebtednes on that loan at N7.6 billion when we left office,” he said.
While saying he appreciated the various people who contacted him on the newspaper interview by a PeoplesDemocratic Party (PDP) chieftain who quoted the wrong figure, Prince Oyinlola pleaded with all public commentators to try getting their facts right at all times.
He explained further that the bulk of the amount was expended on primary and secondary school science kits; reconstruction of technical colleges; Osun State University; rural electrification; township and inter-township roads; Osogbo stadium and five other zonal stadia and government office complex.
While reminding all political gladiators in the state of the need to maintain peace, Prince Oyinlola added that nobody’s ambition should draw blood no matter how high the stake.
