WHY WE ESTABLISHED GOOD GOVERNANCE FORUM —ICPC BOSS

WHY WE ESTABLISHED GOOD GOVERNANCE FORUM —ICPC BOSS

chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr Ekpo Nta, has said that the commission’s Good Governance Forum, which started in 2008, is a platform for top government officials, especially state governors, to share with Nigerians, their governance experiences that have reduced corruption-prone processes, reduced poverty and promoted accountability.
He said at the forum on Thursday in Abuja that the choice of good governance as a name for this forum is, therefore, a deliberate attempt to encourage governments to contribute their quota actively to the fight against corruption.
Nta clarified that the guests to the forum were selected based on verifiable public perception within their domain.
He added: “The ICPC Good Governance Forum is meant to serve as an interactive platform for high flying personalities like state governors, top government officials and professionals in the private sector, who in the public opinion, are adjudged to have impacted meaningfully on the lives of Nigerian citizens through innovative processes that have significantly reduced poverty and corruption on a sustainable basis.”
The Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, at the forum, called for the amendment of the constitution to make job creation compulsory for the government.
The governor decried the high level of unemployment and poverty in the country, advising that job creation should be included in the constitution to force every government in power to tackle poverty.
