Nebo assures of speedy work on burnt Osogbo power station
Minister of Power, Prof. Osita Nebo, yesterday said the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was committed to making power available to all Nigerians, irrespective of drawbacks being witnessed.
Prof. Nebo, who spoke to journalists during an assessment visit to the Osogbo Transmission station, Osogbo, assured Nigerians of Federal Government’s commitment to improved power supply soon.
It would be recalled that in the early hours of Friday, last week, a 150Mva transformer at the station went up in flames, leaving most parts of the South West in darkness for several days. But despite the losses recorded during the inferno, the minister maintained federal government would not be distracted from its target of making electricity available for industrial and domestic use by Nigerians.
In the words of Prof. Nebo, “My visit to this station is to determine the extent of damage and to identify with electricity consumers and staff of the Station. Although the immediate cause of the disaster is yet to be established, but it could have been as a result of insulation breakdown.
He therefore appealed to electricity consumers, mostly in Ilesa, Ondo and other areas where there are low shedding of supply that normalcy would soon return to the affected areas. In his remarks, General Manager of the station, Engr. Vincent Aligwara, said effective measures have been put in place to mitigate the loss in power occasioned by the inferno.
