The Tiv community in Osun State, under the auspices of MDZOUGH U TIV, has described as untrue, report and petition addressed to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over the harassment of one Augustine Tsor and other individuals, who they claimed were not members of their community, by the officials of the Department of State Security (DSS).
In a press statement signed by the president of the community, Mr Titus Tyozer kwen and its general secretary, Augustine Agondo, the Tiv community noted that "there has never been a time when an SSS officer threatened any member of the community in the state", stressing that the petition was only aimed at tarnishing the image of that  notable organisation.
The statement clarified that the traditional ruler of Tiv community in the state is Mr Samson Audu, who was installed by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade on November 29, 2013, at his palace, after due consultations with the headquarters of the Tiv traditional council in Gboko, Benue State.
According to the statement, Mr Augustine Tsor, who claimed to be the traditional leader of the community was suspended in 2011, following alleged unwholesome activities, particularly extortion of money from political office holders.
"For the avoidance of doubt, we want to state in clear terms that Tsor is not the leader of Tiv community in Osun State and cannot be our leader due to his antecedents. We are law abiding people carrying out lawful businesses for a living,” the statement added, describing the petition written by Tsor as frivolous and unfounded.
