‘PDP not aware of Adeleke’s guber ambition’

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Alhaji Gani  Olaoluwa, has said that he is not aware that former Governor Isiaka Adeleke has joined the race for the August 9 governorship  election in the state.

Olaoluwa said this in an interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Adeleke, who is an indigene of Ede in Osun West Senatorial District, announced his intention to contest for the governorship race on the platform of the PDP in a statement issued on his behalf last Sunday.

The party chairman said he had not received the nomination form of the former governor.

He said, “ There are three governorship aspirants in Osun PDP.   They are Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, Wole Oke and Senator Iyiola Omisore. They are financial members, they went through the process. But I have not received the nomination form of former Governor Isiaka Adeleke.

“We have fixed our primaries for April 5, and like I have always said, there will be no room for imposition. There will be fairness in the process. Journalists are invited because we have nothing to hide. You will all see who the delegates would elect.”

The chairman appealed to security agencies to always be alive to their responsibilities, saying some people were bent on fomenting trouble. But he said that they would be exposed.

Adeleke had, in a statement issued by one if the PDP leaders, Femi Adefila, said that the former governor decided  to join the race in order to restore the glorious vision of the founding fathers of the state.

The statement read, “Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke met with community leaders in his home town ,Ede ,on Sunday and declared that he decided to join the race to serve as governor  of the state after deep reflections on the present situation of the state and the need to restore the glorious vision of the states founding fathers.”

The Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Bola Ajao, had earlier said that the party was not aware that Adeleke, popularly known as ‘Serubawon,’ had joined the governorship race.

He said, “We are not aware that Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke has joined the governorship race. We are hearing the rumor like everybody.”
