EKITI/OSUN GOV: FAYEMI, OLASUNKANMI PICK FORMS

EKITI/OSUN GOV: FAYEMI, OLASUNKANMI PICK FORMS

The incumbent governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Wednesday, picked his Expression of Interest Form from All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat for the June 21 scheduled gubernatorial election in the state after payment of N5 million.
The governor, who is seeking re-election on the platform of APC, got the form after the party leadership confirmed that a Zenith Bank draft of N5 million he presented was genuine.
The Interim National Organising Secretary of APC, Mr Osita Izunazo, later announced the governor’s identification number of the form as APC/002/14.
In his short address before he was given the nomination form, the governor thanked the party for asking him to seek re-election, saying that he would not let the party down.
The governor also added that, “today is a landmark in the process of rebuilding our state” and maintained that APC still remain a party to beat in Ekiti State.
A member of House of Representatives and governorship aspirant on the platform of Labour Party (LP) in Ekiti State, Honourable Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, on Wednesday, submitted his expression of Interest Form for the June 21st to the party leadership and declared that, he was in the race because the state needed urgent intervention.
This is coming just as there are strong indications that Honourable Bamidele might emerge as the sole candidate of Labour Party in the Ekiti State gubernatorial election.
Honourable Bamidele, who submitted the form to the party’s National Chairman, Chief Dan Iwuanyanwu, said that Ekiti people would not just see the June election as a mere political exercise, but a struggle to salvage the state from claws of anti-democratic forces led by Governor Kayode Fayemi.
According to him, “to us in Ekiti, it is not just about conducting an election but a journey to salvage Ekiti State from forces of tyranny that the incumbent governor represents.
“If anybody was in doubt as to whether Labour Party is on ground in Ekiti State, the calibre of men in our party now has proved that person wrong.”
Also, one time Minister of Youths Development, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, on Wednesday picked his nomination form for the governorship race of Osun State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ,and  appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, and all the Security Agencies to keep watchful eyes on the forth coming governorship election in the state properly to check  electoral malpractices.
Senator Olasunkanmi who spoke with news men in Abuja yesterday shortly after he picked his nomination form stressed the need  the Electoral Commission to be vigilant so as  to forestall a repeat of a situation where 183 Osun indigenes were reportedly deployed to Anambra state as election monitor during the last governorship election in  the State.
The former Minister advised  the INEC to  enlist the services of all the nation’s  security agencies ahead of the election so that there would be no room for any form of malpractices whatsoever. .
He assured  that if given the ticket, he would deploy his wealth of  experience garner over the years as a Minister and one time Senator of the Federal Republic to develop Osun state.
