Osun delegate claims ignorance of Yoruba agenda
A delegate to the national conference from Osun State, Chief Femi Akande, told our correspondent on Sunday that it would be difficult for him to say what the Yoruba agenda to the meeting would be before the commencement of the meeting.
Akande said that the delegates would meet before the commencement of the talks.
He had however said in a previous interview with our correspondent that he would represent the position of the state and the Yoruba race at the conference.
“I will represent the position of the state and the Yoruba race. But let us leave the issue of the no-go-area till when we get to the conference. It should not be the starting point,” he had said.
Another Osun State delegate, Chief Gbadegesin Adedeji, could not be reached on Sunday.
He had also said earlier that his position at the conference would be in tandem with the position of the Yoruba group.
He, however, said that he, as an individual, believed that the unity of the country should be discussed.
Adedeji had said, “I personally believe that the unity of this country is negotiable. The unity of this country will not be negotiable if all other things are equal. For all other things to be equal, there must be justice, fairness, peace and equity. You must have regards for my people, my culture and my religion.
“I cannot be a party to a marriage where I and my people will not be respected and will be treated like second class citizens. But whatever I will say at the conference will tally with the position of my group.”
