Osun bomb blast: court fixes March 21 for hearing

An Osun State high court sitting in Osogbo yesterday fixed Friday, March 21, 2014 for further hearing on the trial of Richard Abayomi Adesanmi, the star witness in the case of bomb explosion at the premises of the Osun State Ministry of Water Resources in June 2007.
At the resumed hearing of the case before Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe of the state High Court, Osogbo yesterday, the state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Adewale Afolabi insisted that the accused person and the Police should produce a diary said to be found inside the Peugeot 505 car which exploded with the bomb.
Afolabi in his submission before the court said it was on the strength of the contents of the diary that notable chieftains of the then Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, which metamorphosed to the All Progressives Congress APC were arrested and detained by the Police.
He said members of the opposition APC at the time of the incident suffered seriously in the hands of the Police owing to the content of the diary which purportedly contained names of some APC chieftains.
However, counsel to the accused person, Mr. Wilson Atirene told the court that his client did not mention the name of any individual in statement made to the Police, adding that the accused person did not make mention of any diary in both the Police statement and affidavit he deposed to.
The trial Judge, Justice Aderibigbe adjourned the case till March 21, 2014 for further hearing.
