OSUN GOV POLL: OMISORE RAISES THE ALARM OVER THREAT TO LIFE

OSUN GOV POLL: OMISORE RAISES THE ALARM OVER THREAT TO LIFE

ONE of the governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, on Thursday, in Osogbo, the state capital, raised the alarm over threats by some unidentified people to assassinate him.
In a statement signed by his Director of Media and Strategy, Mr Diran Odeyemi, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, Omisore said some concerned people had been sending text messages to him about discreet plan to assassinate him ahead the August 9 governorship election in Osun State.
According to the statement, “we would not have taken the threats seriously, but if one should consider what happened to Late Funsho Williams, a leading governorship aspirant of PDP in Lagos State, who was murdered some months to 2003, there is need to raise the alarm, so that any deadly plot against Omisore can be nipped in the bud.”
It read in part: “We are using this opportunity to call on all security agencies and the Federal Government to ensure effective
security of lives and property of all in Osun, particularly political gladiators, who are key players in the forthcoming governorship poll.”
Omisore, however, urged his supporters not to succumb to any act of provocation, stressing that they should ensure they registered in the ongoing voters’ registration and use their votes as weapons to dislodge APC in the coming election.
The statement also reiterated the call for the redeployment of Osun Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Ambassador Rufus Oluwatoyin Akeju, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), contending that he could not be trusted on the conduct of credible, free and fair election, due to his established closeness and relationship with the national leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu.
