Police deny arresting Osun LG boss with 27 guns

Osun State Police Command has denied the arrest of a local government chairman in the state for gun running.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Ibrahim Maishanu, said this in a statement he made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Monday.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, had said in a statement that a local government chairman was arrested with 17 AK 47 guns, 10 pump action guns and 50 machetes.
He called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, to beam searchlight on the state while alleging that the ruling All Profressives Congress had been piling arms for the election holding on August 9.
But the Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, had denied the allegation.
But the commissioner of police in the state while reacting to the story of the alleged arrest of the council boss said the false information was capable of truncating the peace being enjoyed in the state.
He stated that the number of arms alleged to have been found with the council boss was enough to start a war.
Maishanu said, “The police received a petition signed by one Hashim Abioye alleging attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, violent conduct and criminal assault against four persons.
“The police invited all the parties and carried out a thorough investigations including searches in the premises of those accused, in company with the petitioner.”
