Judiciary strike stalls probe of Omisore, Adesiyan
The ongoing strike embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), on Monday, stalled the ongoing proceedings at the Panel of Enquiry on Disturbance of Public Peace set up by Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the panel failed to sit.
The panel had at its last sitting invited the Minister of Police affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyiola Omisore, to show up following a petition written by the first civilian governor of the state, Isiaka Adeleke.
Both Adesiyan and Omisore were alleged to have assaulted Adeleke during a stakeholders meeting of the PDP at Ideal Nest Hotel in April, this year.
Adeleke, who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleged that Omisore and Adesiyan threatened to kill him during the meeting and urged the commission to investigate the allegation.
However, the commission could not sit on Monday, as the gate of the State High Court, Osogbo, venue of the sitting, was closed.
Secretary to the panel, Bisi Babalola, in a statement said the panel would choose a new date and communicate same to all parties involved.
He attributed the development to the strike embarked upon by JUSUN, stressing that the panel would continue with its sitting as soon as the judiciary workers resume.
Babalola explained that the panel was made up of some members of JUSUN who are currently on strike, pointing out that it would be difficult for members of the panel to function well without the Judiciary workers in place.
