‘Funds from Federation Account could’ve transformed Osun if…’
Osun State governorship candidate on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), Fatai Akinbade, has observed that the over N300 billion that has accrued to the state in the last three and half years from the federation account, was enough to transform the state, if the Rauf Aregbesola administration had put it to judicious use.
Besides, Akinbade noted that this did not include loans and other credit facilities running into several billions of naira already obtained by the government.
The erstwhile Secretary to the State Government, who bemoaned the situation, made these observations in a statement signed by his Director of Media, Kayode Oladeji.
“The over N300 billion allocation from the federation account to the state and local governments in the last three and half years, if properly utilised, following the local content policy and due process, is enough to move the state out of its present bad shape.”
Akinbade, who lamented that the style of the present administration in the state was bleeding the economy, stressing that as a remedy, the LP administration would block leakages, saying, “Such conserved funds will be channelled to developmental projects that will benefit the people in general.”
He added that it was only through judicious use of the available resources that the state could be transformed, assuring that the LP administration would re-introduce the procurement law so as to ensure transparency and accountability.
“LP Government, immediately after inauguration, will ensure the passage of Procurement Act to serve as a guide for the execution of all government projects. When the cost is moderate and competitive, the government will be able to spread development within the available resources.”
