The confusion in Osun schools
A report by The PUNCH
says some pupils on Tuesday shunned their uniforms and wore choir
gowns, white garments, Islamic apparel and other unconventional
dresses to the school.

Akhimienus: This is
pathetic. You bargain for this when you elect leaders that are overtly
sensitive to religious issues. When you elect leaders that are too
religion-inclined, this is one of the by-products you get. This is just
the beginning. Very soon the traditional adherents among them wIll start
wearing their paraphernalia to the school. You think it is only the
Christians and Muslims that attend the school? Wait for more chaotic
scenes to be enacted. Welcome to Aregbesola’s State of Osun.
Patville: If we have to
separate religion from our education, don’t you think, the students
should dress in a secular (conventional) and not in a religious manner, I
think the government has to be extra careful as religion has been known
to be the cause of chaos and unnecessary breakdown of law and order as
most people become very passionate, emotional and sentimental on issues
involving it. A caring government ought to have taken this into
consideration when evolving the new policy rather than behaving in a “be
all, know all” way. It is never too late to arrest the situation before
it gets out of control.
Kharixmah: The governor
should take the blame squarely for introducing a particular dress code.
There was tranquility and peace before the introduction of the dress
code. How can the government talk about a dress code in addressing decay
in the educational system? The way out is to return all religious
schools and hospitals – both Muslim and Christians – to their owners. If
a Christian attends a Muslim school, he should abide by the school’s
rules and vice versa.
