Senate: Attempt to declare Saraki, Abe’s seats vacant fails
Attempt to declare the seats of five Senators who openly defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the floor of the Senate failed on Wednesday. The Senators openly declared their intention to switch to the APC on Tuesday.
The move followed a motion by Senator Ita Enang praying Senate President David Mark to declare their seats vacant by virtue of the open declaration for the APC.
Mark ruled Enang out of order on the premise that it is against the rule of the Upper Chamber to make reference to any matter that is before a competent court.
He reminded Enang that the issue regarding defection or no defection is still pending in court.
