Osun’s new education policy confusing – Methodist Archbishop
The Methodist Church of Nigeria, Abuja Archdiocese, yesterday, expressed serious concern over the new education policy introduced by the Osun State Government which has continued to generate controversy among all stakeholders in the state.
The Methodist Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace, the Most Rev. J. Oche Job, stated this at his pre-enthronement address in Abuja, describing the state government’s action as religious biases which had generated anarchy in the education sector.
“All I know is that there is confusion in the place and it is all coming out of religious biases. If you wear this (attire), let me wear that! That is the confusion,” he said, adding that the dressing uproar has to do with the philosophy that has been introduced.
Corroborating the Archbishop’s statement, the Abuja Diocese’s Lay President, David Olatunji Fadairo, said the church in Nigeria has already taken up the matter with the government with the aim of resolving the issue at appropriate time.
“On the situation in Osun, you will see that recently, there have been lots of confusions that have crept in because now you see the Muslims wearing hijab and the Christians also going in their choir robes, etc. You see there is a state of anarchy that is going on there in the area of education but the point is that in the appropriate quarter, the issue is being taken up with government. The religious bodies are not resting on the oar and it is being taken up with government. You know as far as Christianity is concerned, we believe in non-violent approach in resolving issues,” he said.
