Uzoenyi in line for World Cup – Keshi
Except the unexpected happens, Super
Eagles and Enugu Rangers winger Ejike Uzoenyi is one of the players who will
form part of Nigeria’s 2014 World Cup squad.
The performance of the striker in
the just concluded African Nations Championship in South Africa, where he was
declared the Most Valuable Player of the tournament has placed the striker in
pole position to make the Stephen Keshi World Cup squad.
In a chat with reporters after the
bronze winning effort of the Super Eagles in Cape Town, Keshi said, “I can safely
say this is Ejike’s tournament and I thank God for him.”
Keshi was asked at the mixed zone
after the match against Zimbabwe to review the performance of the Rangers
striker in the tournament.
The coach admitted Ejuke towered
above others despite the unfortunate semi final loss to Ghana, and he said,
“Ejike did wonderfully well. He made the tournament look like his project and
his efforts have been acknowledged by all.”
Although the coach said he would not
disclose the names of the players who will make the World Cup squad, he assured
that he would be happy if the petite forward w makes the World Cup squad, all
things being equal.
“He has done well, but there is room
for improvement. I hope he makes the squad,” Keshi prayed.
