Re- Osun uniform controversy
The school uniform
controversy in Osun State is being blown out of proportion in my view.
This is an election year and in politics, the players can go all the way
to stage manage many things. There are some questions we should
address. Why is it that the photograph as published in a national
newspaper had all the pupils wearing religious outfits in the front
roll? How was the photograph taken? Was it taken by the school authority
and sent to the press? How was the journalist allowed to take the
picture at the school assembly? Why are these issues coming up now that
Osun governorship election is close? Truth is, Governor Rauf Aregbesola
needs to be sensitive to some of the public views about him but this
latest one in my view has political undertones. Imagine the issue of
people dressing in masquerade regalia to school. How does one confirm
they are pupils? That sounds so unreal.

The confusion raging in Osun State
schools over classification, merger and uniform was created by the state
government. There is no logical reason for the elimination
by substitution type of arrangement that is presently tearing the state
apart. No serious government that really knows what next to do that
will drag hijab wearing pupils to a Christian missionary
founded school. In the same vein, what does Governor Rauf Aregbesola
stand to gain by deliberately causing commotion for himself with his
insistence on renaming the 80-year-old Ilesha Grammar School to Ilesha High School?
What benefit will the people of Osun State gain from the uncalled for
exercise? Aregbesola should halt all the unnecessary crisis in the
education sector of the state. The state Commissioner for Education
should advise the governor faithfully and correctly on serious education
policies and programmes that will be beneficial to the people. Enough
of the hue and cry in the state over petty issues that serve nobody any
good.
