Opon Imo: Omisore accuses Aregbesola of deceit

Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola
Ex-Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, on Sunday faulted Governor Rauf  Aregbesola’s implementation of  his pet educational device, Opon Imo.
He said the scheme was fraudulent and deceitful.
“They have distributed just 900 Opon Imo till date. The project is a deceit and everybody knows this,” Omisore, who is a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, said at a media briefing he organised in Osogbo, the state capital.
Opon Imo’   is  an  electronic device introduced by the Aregbesola’s government to aid learning among pupils in public schools in the state.
Omisore alleged that the administration of the All Progressives Congress in Osun had been siphoning the state’s resources through various spurious projects, including the distribution of Opon Imo.
He said he joined the governorship race to rescue the state from those  he described as foreigners who had come just to plunder it.
Criticizing the school reclassification policy of the Aregbesola government, the PDP aspirant said that the mega schools being built by the governor had worsened the situation of the education sector in the state.
He said that no fewer than 90 students were being forced into a classroom despite the building of mega schools.
According to him, Aregbesola administration has so far built 11 of such mega schools “whereas thousands of schools built by the SUBEB during the administration of Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola had been destroyed.”
Omisore reiterated his call for the removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Ambassador Rufus Akeju, saying he could not conduct a credible poll in the state.
But the Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr. Sunday Akere, while reacting to the allegations, described Omisore as a “blatant liar,” saying the government had already distributed 20,000 Opon Imo to pupils.
The commissioner added that the state had also taken delivery of 30,000 devices to be distributed to students.
According to Akere, the current administration is transparent and has recorded many achievements which have drawn applause from within and outside the country.
He said, “We promised to distribute 150,00 Opon  Imo and we have distributed 20,000 already. We made it clear at the beginning that we were going to import 50,000 and assemble the remaining 100,000 here in the state.
“We have distributed 20,000 and we have already taken delivery of the remaining 30,000 we imported. Those ones would be distributed very soon. Omisore is a liar and this is known to everybody.
“The schools where the tablet of knowledge was distributed are not in heaven, anybody can go round and find out from the students and their teachers.”
