Chaos in Osun as student cultists clash
•Police arrest 2
Pandemonium broke out in Osogbo, Osun State
capital on Friday, as student cultists engaged in a violent clash at
Osogbo Grammar School, where weapons, including cutlasses, knives,
axes, among others were used.
The development, which caused tension and fear among residents, led to the temporary blockade of Iwo-Osogbo expressway, where the school is situated, with passersby scampering for safety.
When our Saturday Tribune visited the scene, broken bottles littered the road and the entrance of the school premises.
Though the identities of the students could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, it was gathered that two of the suspected student cultists had been arrested by the police and were currently being held at Dada Estate Police station, in Osogbo.
One of the detained students was said to be the leader of a notorious cult group terrorising students of both the school and other schools in the state.
Saturday Tribune learnt that the detained students were involved in anti-social activities within the school premises and also attempted to vandalise the school’s property when they were apprehended.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Dada Estate Police Division led the team that arrested the suspected cultists.
Sources informed that the management of the school had earlier called the attention of the police and the state chapter of the Parents Teachers’ Association (PTA) to the development.
When contacted, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Folasade Odoro, said she was yet to be briefed over the incident, but assured that the police would investigate the matter.
