Osogbo- Iwo Road: Governor Aregbesola Deceives Osun West
In a statement signed by its President General,Otunba Olaiya Adigun and issued yesterday in Osogbo, the group which just elected its new leadership alleged that the governor has failed to deliver on his promise on the major road which its said passes through almost all the ten local governments in the senatorial district of Osun West.
“Governor Aregbe promised to get Julius Berger to reconstruct the Iwo- Osogbo road when he was campaigning. He made that promise and we have him on tape. Now few months to the end of his tenure ,that road is still impassable . We have not seen any Julius Berger on the road. What is the sin of Osun West?
” We are forced to raise this issue because that road is the economic nerve center of our senatorial district. The road passes through almost all the ten local governments in the district. Iwo and other council areas have been reduced to rural dwellings with motorists now diverting to other entry points to the state.
“The Governor instead of reconstructing the road is focussing more on federal roads some of which the Federal Government has already awarded. We are also shocked because the neglect of Osun West especially from Iwo axis appears to be deliberate. The only major road construction in our district is the Federal road coming from Gbongan to Iwo to Oyo.
“Throughout the ongoing tenure of the governor,Osun West is treated like a leperous hand while the Governors’s home zone is favoured far and above other two zones. While we cannot speak for Osun Central,we of Odo Oba Ibile Movement are serving a notice that our people will no longer be deceived in the next election. We will take our destiny into our hands”, the statement said .
“We will not be cajoled. We will no longer be hoodwinked . We showed love and support for the governor ; he paid us back with failed promises. Even when the governor was planting flowers,he selected to plant it on Ibadan- Ilesa federal road and not Iwo- Osogbo road.We have communicated our disaffection and resolution to the governor.”, the statement concluded.
