The PDP alleged that the motive behind the APC’s plot was to obtain thousands of voters’ card, which would be used by ineligible voters to perpetrate electoral fraud in the August 9, 2014 gubernatorial poll.
In a communique signed by the Osun State chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, at the end of its stakeholders’ meeting, the party said “we will not allow the APC to smuggle non natives to Osun via train to participate in the voters’ registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We are using this opportunity to call on all security agencies to be up and doing in foiling the attempts by the APC to bring people from outside the states to obtain voters’ card fraudulently as a prelude to rigging in the governorship election,” the communique added.
The communique also enjoined all PDP members who had the temporary voters card to go and collect the permanent voters card while appealing to those who were up to 18 years “to ensure that they go and collect their voters card,” describing it as their weapon to kick out the APC.
But, in a swift reaction, the APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Kunle Oyatomi, said “PDP is telling the world what it intends to do. We are not surprised because we all saw what they did some weeks back when brought Nigerians from all over the country, especially the West, to fake an Osun crowd at the declaration of intention to contest governorship by one of its aspirants.
“If they can fake a crowd, they will also want to fake voters’ register, the same way they faked the crowd in Osogbo. The APC will like the security agencies to note seriously all the nefarious designs of the PDP to create problem before, during and after the election and to ensure that these plans are nipped in the bud. The party will also want to alert its supporters across the state to be vigilant and report any strange person not resident in their community, trying to register as voters.”
