Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Osun State council, Alhaji Isiaka  Afolabi, has said that the organisation was not aligned to any political party in the discharge of its responsibility and service to the masses.
He maintained that the activities of the NURTW were not being sponsored by any political party or group, stressing that “our support only goes to any government of the day in the state, regardless of party affiliation.”
Speaking at a press conference on the activities of the union in Osogbo, Alhaji Afolabi contended that members of the NURTW were  responsible citizens of the country, who could not be used as political thugs, warning that politicians in Osun State should eschew violence and thuggery in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
According to him, “Members of the union are effective partakers and contributors to the economy of the state and in all areas, NURTW members play key role in the overall development of the state, being an efficient organ in the maintenance of peace and good governance without political bias.”
While explaining that the union had over 250,000 members spread across the 30 local government areas in the state, Alhaji Afolabi said his leadership would uphold the constitution of the union and ensure that members discharged their socio-economic duties in an atmosphere of peace, law and order.
He, however, commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s government for providing 50 buses to the NURTW through a bank guaranteed soft loan, stressing that “this gesture would further enhance the capability of the union in discharging its responsibilities to passengers and other categories of clients.
“The state government must be commended for this initiative and the payment of one year comprehensive insurance on each of the vehicle and payment of 20 per cent bank interest on the loan,” he said.
