Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam has condemned the absurdity displayed at Iwo Baptist High school by pupils who were instigated to using different religious dressing codes to cause chaos in the school.
This condemnation is coming as the lawmaker urged parents and guardians to support the efforts of the state government in returning sanity to the education sector of the state.
Speaker Salaam in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Goke Butika, stressed that the action of the pupils has taken the drama of absurdity to the peak, noting that it was very clear now that those who were benefitting from the rot of the public schools in the past would not spare anything to discredit the positive development in the education sector in the state.
The Speaker then asserted that the leadership of the school, and the officials of ministry of education should prepare for explanation on what led to the orchestrated embarrassment of the government, given the rowdy session that lasted for two days in the school, disclosing that the intervention of the parliament on the school dress code in conjunction with relevant stakeholders has become imperative.
According to the Speaker: “Now that we have seen clearly that the enemies of progress recorded in the education sector would not spare a thought for decency and decorum, but ready to use innocent pupils to foment troubles by encouraging their children who are direct beneficiaries of the huge investment in the sector to go to school in different religious robes, the parliament under my watch would no longer fold arms on the matter; that makes legislative intervention compelling on the school dress codes in the state.”
Speaker Salaam further charged parents and guardians to support the government on the school reclassification exercise by making their complaints to relevant authorities, instead of encouraging division among their children along religious line, noting that the clash of faith does not count in graduate schools.
