Osun Police Commissioner’s deployment painful –Aregbesola

Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has described as painful the redeployment of Mrs. Dorothy Gimba as the state Police Commissioner even as he charged the state police hierarchy to be on alert to ensure that the declaration of a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Christopher Iyiola Omisore, does not jeopardise the peace and progress of the state.
Senator Omisore will today formally declare his intention to contest the Oke-Fia government seat with Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Other governorship aspirants include Hon. Oluwole Oke (PDP), former Chairman, House Committee on Defence in the House of Representatives, Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi (PDP), former Minister of Youth Development, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade (LP), Hon. Niyi Owolade (LP) and Elder Segun Akinwusi (UPN) among others.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday in Abuja announced the redeployment of Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu, and 12 others.
Speaking at the send-off party organised for the Osun State Police Commissioner, at the Police Officers’ mess, Osogbo, Aregbesola said the departure of Mrs. Gimba from the state is painful and unsatisfactory to him.
According to him, “If I say I am satisfied with your exit from the state, I am not telling the truth more so that this is the time experience would count in police administration and maintenance of law and order.
He lamented that within three years, Osun State has had three commissioners of police, adding; “We have had a gradual restoration of law and order and security challenges have reduced to bearest minimum to the extent that the state is known to be one of the most peaceful states in the federation.
“We must at this point thank the three commissioners of police for their commitment, dedication and professionalism. It would have been better if they had been allowed to use their experience to further enhance peace and maintenance of law and order in the state.
“I do not have any doubt in the competence of the officers that would be left behind. A major political event is taking place in the state on Saturday (today), I call on high ranking police officers in the state to be on their highest alert to ensure that the political event does not in any way jeopardise tranquility, peace and progress of the state, particularly in Osogbo,” he said.
Governor Aregebsola said further that to ensure that the peace of the state is not disrupted, he has given instruction to officers of All Progressives Congress (APC) and members not to do anything that will threaten those coming for the political event or the peace of the state.
