Omisore to declare governorship ambition amid tension

There is apprehension in Osun State ahead of the plan by Senator Iyiola Omisore to declare his governorship ambition in Osogbo on Saturday.
Omisore had on Wednesday raised the alarm in a statement issued by the Director of Media and Strategy   of his campaign organisation, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, that the ruling All Progressives Congress and Governor Rauf Aregbesola had perfected plans to disrupt his declaration scheduled for Saturday.
The aspirant called on the security agencies in the state to ensure that nobody was allowed to cause mayhem in the state during the declaration.
The statement reads in part, “The planned attack was rehearsed  when the APC members attacked members of the Peoples Democratic Party, who have converged on the party secretariat for a  rally.
“Information at our disposal indicated that thugs are being trained in different parts of the state by the ruling APC to cause a major crisis in order to give Senator Omisore a bad name and portray him as a violent person.
“We also have it on good authority that T-shirts and fez caps with the insignia of Omisore are being distributed to the thugs to carry out the dastardly act.
“We have also been inundated with calls by our supporters across the state that the APC thugs have carried out several attacks on them in order to intimidate them.”
But the Chairman of the APC, Mr. Adelowo Adebiyi, in a statement, also accused Omisore of planning to cause violence using his declaration as a guise.
The APC chairman also urged security agencies to rise up to the occasion, saying that the state should not be returned to the “era of the holocaust” which it experienced under the leadership of the PDP.
