Group sues for peaceful election in Osun

A Faith-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Foundation for World Peace, has called on the people of Osun State to embrace peace in the forthcoming governorship election.
Speaking at the palace of the paramount ruler of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade when the group paid a courtesy visit to his palace at Ile-Ife, the President of the Foundation, Ambassador Samson Benjamin, called on the people of the state to ensure that they vote wisely in the coming governorship election and vote according to their conscience, assuring that the outcome of this would ensure peace reigns, not only in the state but also in every part of the country.
Benjamin noted that the citizens of Nigeria have a right to the good things of life, like good roads, health care and other infrastructure but cautioned that their vote is the best way to get such things if they vote the right people into office.
While lamenting the fact that politicians are more faithful to godfathers, rather than the people who voted them into power, he called on the citizens to shun money politics and do what is just and right.
The cleric also berated the spate of violence in some parts of the country in recent times, stating that, Nigeria is nobody’s property and that Nigerians should learn to keep the peace, just as the country does in many other countries.
He urged Nigerians to act according to the words of the national pledge, adding that the country would be a better place for all, if only citizens would serve with all their hearts, according to their vows.
Corroborating this, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade noted that peace is an essential ingredient required for any society to develop, and for the people to achieve their dreams and aspiration, hence he called on the people of Osun State to ensure peace reigns in the coming elections in the state.
Oba Sijuwade, who spoke through one of the palace high chiefs, also noted that Ife is the cradle of civilisation, and that it had been acknowledged by a number of renowned establishments and educational institutions around the world.
On his part, chairman of the state’s chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor T.A Adewoye who commended the group for the initiative noted that the people of Osun State are peace-loving, and would continue to maintain it.
He also lamented that politicians usually come with promises during campaigns, only to become scarce after they get into positions of power.
He therefore appealed to clerics in the state to sensitise their congregations on the need to vote god-fearing people who would work for the people and the progress of the state.
Adewoye called on the people to ensure they get their voters’ cards, as it would enable them participate in the coming governorship election in the state, and subsequent elections in the country.
