Bola Ige: Court adjourns Omisore’s suit till Feb 17

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan yesterday fixed February 17 for the adoption of addresses in a N20 billion suit instituted by Otunba Iyiola Omisore, for his prosecution over the murder of the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige.
Defendants in the case are the Oyo State government, the state Attorney- General and Commissioner of Justice as well as the Inspector- General of Police.
Omisore through his counsel, Prince Albert Abiodun Adeogun, prayed the court to among others, hold that his detention and subsequent prosecution in respect of the murder of Ige was done out of malice.
According to him, the trial was not based on the proof of evidence but rather by extra-judicial statements made by the prosecution witnesses.
At the hearing of the case yesterday, counsel to the defendants, Mrs. Funke Fawole, for the police and Mr. I. O. Tijani, for Oyo State government, applied for adjournment.
Tijani said he wanted to file an additional ground of appeal to his earlier application while Fawole also informed the court that she has filed her motion on notice, adding that she wanted to amend her application and later move the first leg of the first application.
Adeogun, counsel for the plaintiff told the court that he has no objection to the prayers of his colleague.
The presiding judge, Justice Abimbola Adejumo- Obaseki, while adjourning the case advised the counsel to exchange phone numbers in order to ease communication so as to help in disposing of the case without undue delay.
