Efforts by the Osun State government to construct more mega schools,
which would accommodate many students under the reclassification of
school may have hit the rocks in Osogbo, the state capital as the
authorities of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun Araromi
District Headquarters has alleged Governor Rauf Aregbesola on
encroachment on the piece of land belonging to the church.
The church alleged that without seeking its consent, officials of the O schools, led by Layi Oyeduntan, last year stormed its revival ground and commenced construction of middle school and in the process, a multipurpose conference hall for Good Women Association under construction on which over N10million had been spent was demolished.
In a protest letter forwarded to the governor and copied to state Commissioner of Police, Director, Department of State Security (DSS), Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Osun State chapter, dated January 13, 2014, the church described as forceful and illegal the taking over of their land for the construction of middle school without mutual understanding.
According to the letter, which was endorsed by the church secretary, Akin Olusegun, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent in Osogbo on Wednesday, “To our dismay, while a response from the government was being awaited over the encroachment, the leader of O schools in flagrant display of power laid siege to a portion of our church’s land with heavily armed policemen.”
