OSUN: CHRISTIANS, MUSLIMS, TRADITIONALISTS HOLD UNITY CONCERT
Iwo communities in Osun West senatorial district of Osun State were a beehive on Sunday night as Christians, Muslims and traditionalists organised a joint concert in support of Governor Rauf Aregbesola for his efforts to unite the various religions in the state.
At the concert, code-named ‘Peace and Unity Inter-religious Concept’, organised by Pax Nigeriana International, a non-governmental organisation, Christians, Muslims and traditional religion practitioners converged on Iwo town hall, singing ‘hymns of unity’ and dancing.
Coordinator of the group, Apostle Dipo Okeyomi, said: “Governor Aregbesola has demonstrated his love for all the religions in the state and that is why we are here gathered to debunk insinuations that the governor is a religious bigot. As son of an archbishop, I attended a Muslim school where I interacted with many Muslims who remain my friends till today.
“That is exactly what the governor has been doing in Osun State; wanting the children of all religions toattend school together, eat together and live together, thereby promoting harmony.”
Okeyomi emphasised that the ongoing religious crises in some parts of the North are traceable to failure byMuslim and Christian children to interact during their childhood period, urging faithful of different religions in Osun State to see themselves as partners in progress.
The group’s inter-religious concerts, which would be taken round the state, will be rounded off with grand finale at the Cultural Centre Osogbo on March 23.
