Council chairmen reiterate support for Aregbesola

Local government chairmen in Osun State have reiterated their unalloyed support for Governor Rauf Aregbesola, renouncing the insinuation of rift between them and the governor.
Addressing press conference in Osogbo on Sunday, the Chairman, Forum of Caretaker Administration, Soji Ajayi, denied any rift with Aregbesola, saying a cordial relationship exist between them and the governor, contrary to speculations in some quarters.
He said members of the opposition parties are sponsoring the rumour to cause crisis in the state ahead of the August 9 governorship election.
Ajayi, who is also the Chairman, Caretaker Committee in Irewole Local Government Area of the state, declared that the 30 caretaker chairmen in the state are strongly behind the second term ambition of Aregbesola.
He also denied speculations that some council chairmen in the state were holding secret meetings with a leading governorship aspirant in the state, describing the rumour as an attempt to destabilise the state and scatter the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Rumours were rife in the state since last week that a frosty relationship currently exists between Aregbesola and the council caretaker chairmen following the alleged withholding of the councils’ allocations.
However, Ajayi stated that, “we are not in any way at loggerhead with the governor as being speculated by some fifth columnists. We still maintain a cordial relationship with him. Our relationship with the governor remains intact regardless of the rumour filtering round the state.”
He urged the electorates to be steadfast and remain resolute on their support for the Aregbesola, stressing that the rumour was aimed at causing disaffection between the governor and the chairmen.
