PDP postpones registration exercise in Osun
Alhaji Gani Ola-Oluwa, the Chairman
of the PDP in Osun, said on Thursday that the party had
postponed its membership registration exercise.
Ola-Oluwa told the News Agency
of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo that a new date for the exercise would soon be
communicated to members.
NAN reports that the party had
earlier announced that it would commence registration of members across the
state last Monday.
“The party decided to shift the
registration of members due to increased political activities.
“When it is time to register our
members, we shall let them know because we are of the belief that
membership and voters registration are vital to a successful election.
“As a party, the PDP is not
interested in disrupting the peace of the state, therefore we will soon find a
suitable period to conduct our registration,’’ Ola-Oluwa said.
Meanwhile, the registration
exercise for members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) continued in
Osun on Thursday.
NAN reports that the rush observed
on Wednesday at centres in Osogbo had given way to more orderly queues.
Mr Yemi Ojiwusi, the Registration
Officer at Unit 19, Ward 5, Osogbo Local Government, said she registered 76
members on Wednesday.
Another Registration Officer at Unit
20, Ward 5, Osogbo, Mr Issa Idowu, said he registered 90 members on
Wednesday.
NAN recalls that Mr Kunle
Oyatomi, APC’s Director of Publicity in Osun, had said there were
enough materials to register all residents who turned out for the
exercise.
Oyatomi said that the
party’s feedback machinery was in motion to ensure orderliness. (NAN)
