Ministerial appointment: ‘Osun APC jittery over Adesiyan’s confirmation’

Ministerial appointment: ‘Osun APC jittery over Adesiyan’s confirmation’

A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Segun Odekunmi, has said that nomination and eventual confirmation of former Commissioner for Education in the state, Abdul Jelili Adesiyan, by the Senate has posed serious threat to survival of All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
Odekunmi while speaking journalists in Lagos State yesterday said that Adesiyan’s political strength and grass roots’ mobilisation power made some members of APC, especially the senators from the state to strongly oppose his nomination even as he is achieved a lot as commissioner.
“It is now clear that Osun State Chapter of APC is jittery about the nomination of Abdul Jelili Oyewale Adesiyan because they believe that his confirmation by the Senate as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would not only strengthen PDP in South West but would also cripple the over-bloated popularity of APC in the zone, especially in Osun State ahead of the forthcoming governorship election slated for August this year.
“The display by one of the senators from Osun State, Professor Sola Adeyeye representing Osun Central Constituency, who insisted that Adesiyan should not be confirmed, actually reminds every well-meaning Nigerian, especially people of Osun State the politics of bitterness that characterises the activities of APC. It should be noted that Adeyeye represents the same senatorial district with the former governor of the state and Interim National Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande and it is understandable that Adeyeye was acting a script written by him (Akande).
“I want to tell you categorically that some members of APC who know how Adesiyan transformed education sector in the state will soon join our fold because they know he is a grass roots politician, who would do everything to ensure victory for PDP in the forthcoming governorship and 2015 elections.”
