Breaking News: Ex-Kano Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau Finally Decamps From APC To PDP

Ex-Kano Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau Finally Decamps From APC To PDP

Ibrahim-ShekarauFormer Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Defects to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He announced the defection during a meeting at his palatial home in Mundubawa, Kano where a meeting between him and his political associates is taken place.
According to him, the decision was to satisfy the aspirations of the people of the state who felt left out and deserted by the APC.
“We intended with the merger to form a solid foundation for entrenchment of democracy.
“The Legacy Group sacrificed all interests for the merger, but for the past six months all agreements reached had not been met.
“No clear leaders, no registration of APC members at any levels. This shows a clear lack of commitment, transparency andaccountability to all concerned,” he said.
During the meeting between Shekarau and his associates which is still ongoing as at the time of this report, supporters of the former governor were seen outside the venue of the meeting wielding flags and logos of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shakarau is one of the Chieftains of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) , which merged with the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Congress of Progressive Change (CPC), to form the All Progressives Congress.
He played a key role in the success of the merger especially serving as a member of the merger committee.
Crisis however began when Kano State Governor, Rabui Kwankwaso defected from the Peoples Demcratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and took over the leadership of the party in Kano state as required by the constitution of the party. This however did not go down well with Shakarau who felt some persons have worked hard enough to relinquish the position to a defector.
Shekarau’s defection did not come as a surprise especially considering that his Sokoto state counter, Attahiru Bafarawa last week met in Sokoto to decide either to dump the APC for the PDP. Bafarawa shortly after the Sokoto meeting announced his defection to the PDP.
